The most interesting aspects of her abrupt resignation announcement (it takes effect in three weeks) are that she did it as a late Friday news dump on a holiday weekend that will be dominated by the late Michael Jackson, and she gave a reason that makes no sense at all. Something smells awfully wrong here.
“‘Bizarre,’ ’embarrassing,’ ‘strange,’ ‘erratic,’ ‘she’s finished!'” — David Shuster, at the top of MSNBC’s Hardball, reading reactions… from Republicans!

Here are some comments by some of my favorite bloggers, via Facebook:
Jesse Taylor: Mrs. Palin, what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Rude Pundit is thinking that you don’t resign as governor of a state, even Alaska, which is barely a state, unless some big shit avalanche is about to wipe you out.
Lizz Winstead: “Sarah Palin is gonna work on her book. Maybe she should read one first.”
UPDATE: This could be why – BradBlog has a source that tells him that Palin’s Titanic is about to hit an “iceberg scandal.”(Could it have something to do with this?) Max Blumenthal seems to agree. And then there’s this trenchant quote from a fresh post to Progressive Alaska: “What we are seeing here is either a preface to some indictment, or the final chapter in the career of what has been the biggest political joke of the 21st century.
